What is Metabolic Flexibility?

What is Metabolic Flexibility?

Metabolic Flexibility is when your metabolism is flexible.

This means, your body knows how to use glucose (carbs) for fuel but also can switch to using fat (being fat-adapted) for fuel, efficiently, without gaining fat and feeling like crap.

As humans, we naturally evolved to be metabolically flexible.

When we had access to more fruits and starchier veggies (summer months) our bodies would run on glucose and burn that for fuel aka glucose oxidation.

Then, when winter came, we would become fat-adapted because we ate more low-carb/ketogenic and our bodies ran on fat aka fat oxidation.

Unfortunately, that all changed with industrialization.

Now we have food at every corner during all seasons and most of us are so carb dependent, that our bodies have become metabolically INflexible.

We rely on glucose for fuel and when we run out, we become hangry, tired, and crave carbs and sugar.

No Bueno.

Why Become Metabolic Flexible?

Becoming metabolically flexible gives you the freedom to eat both carbs and fat without gaining fat, feeling tired, bloated, or restricted.

It gives you food freedom without feeling like you have to eat one way for the rest of your life.

If you want to go out with your gf for tacos and margaritas, you can without gaining 10 pounds and feeling bloated IF you’re metabolically flexible.

On the other hand, being metabolic flexible allows you to go hours without eating and not get hangry or feel like you’re going to pass out.

Your body knows how to use carbs instead of storing them as fat when they are available while being able to switch to burning fat for fuel when carbs are depleted in an effortless manner.

So the question is, how does one become metabolically flexible again?

How to become Metabolically Flexible

The good news is that your body already knows how to do this, it just needs to be reminded and given the opportunity to switch fuel sources when required.

Step 1: Become Fat Adapted

You do this by first becoming fat-adapted and training your body to burn fat for fuel.

The easiest way to become fat-adapted is by following a low-carb, ketogenic protocol or fasting.

Step 2: Cycle Back Carbs Strategically

Once you’ve become fat-adapted you’ll want to bring back carbs (strategically) so your body can use them for energy and muscle growth.

If you want to learn more about how to cycle back carbs, watch my free training here.

You'll have days where your body is using fat for fuel and days where it's using glucose for fuel without gaining fat, feeling tired, or experiencing cravings or blood sugar spikes and dips.

Step 3: Switch back and forth from using glucose to fat depending on your goals

Once you’ve brought back carbs (strategically) you can now create a schedule for yourself that aligns with your goals.

Do you want to carb up weekly, monthly, or seasonally? There are many ways to do this and I cover all of them inside my free training that you can access here.

Your body wants to be metabolically flexible, it's wired for it.

We just need to remove the things that disrupt this process and let it do its thing.

I hope you're excited about this as much as I am because this is complete food freedom.

I can't wait for you to experience this for yourself. Make sure you watch my free training on how to get started with this here: https://eatbefitexplore.com/training
